I met Ashley last year when our daughters were in Kindergarten together. She is a pretty great lady. My first impression was she was so positive and kind. This year I was having a conversation with her daughter and she mentioned that “mommy was taking a year off work!” and my first initial thought was “lucky”. Then the next week we were causally talking and I asked “so why the year off?” She was so swift and matter of fact in her response “I have Breast Cancer!” I was blown away and thoughts raced through my head. She’s so young, no way, this is a bad dream!
She told me a time line of how all the treatment was going to play out and surgery was coming fast! We did a session last Sunday, October 27th…it was important to Ashley that we capture her and her family prior to this battle.
She was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma on August 5th. She’s 32. She found out that her cancer is not only in her breast but it had travelled to one of her lymph nodes. She has had a mastectomy of her left breast and is in the process of recovering at home. From an outsider looking in I can tell you she is the strongest person I have ever met! She is strength and beauty like I have never seen! Ashley and her husband Shawn and daughter Aspen have all agreed to have me tell their story! So I will be updating this blog with different and all sides of their journey.
